(i) Block mountain e.g the Hunstruck mt. of Germany

(ii) Fold mountain e.g the Himalayas

(iii) Volcanic mountain, e.g Fuji mountain of Japan

(b) Mode of formation of Fold mountains

(i) Folding is caused by large stale h Drizontal earth movement

(ii) Stresses, caused by expansion or contraction of some parts of the earth, are set up in the earth's crust

(iii) Such stresses subject the reeks to compressive forces

(iv) The compressive forces produce wrinkling or folding of the earth's crust

(v) The upfold of the wrinkles are called anticlines while the downfold are synclines.

(c) Four ways in which mountains are of great importance to man;
