(a) Define Young's modulus
(b) When a force of 50 N is applied to the free end of an elastic cord, an extension of 4 cm is produced in the cord. Calculate the work done on the cord.
Explanation
(a) Young's modulus is the ratio of tensile or compressive stress to tensile or compressive strain.
(b) W = \(\frac{1}{2}\)K = \(\frac{1}{T}\) x 50 x 0.04 = 1.0J
