(a) List two properties of cathode rays

(b) Explain how the intensity and energy of cathode rays may be increased

Correct Answer:

Explanation

(a) Properties of cathode rays: They are;

(i) Negatively charged

(ii) Possess energy

(iii) Possess momentum

(iv) Travel in straight lines in field free space.

(v) Are deflected by electric and magnetic fields.

(b) (i) The intensity of cathode rays can be increased by increasing the temperature of the cathode.

(ii) The energy of cathode ray cen be increased by increasing the P.d between the anode and the cathode.
