If the mean of 2, 5, (x + 1), (x + 2), 7 and 9 is 6, find the median.

  • A. 6.5
  • B. 6.0
  • C. 5.5
  • D. 5.0

Correct Answer: A. 6.5

Explanation

\(\frac{1 + 5 + x + 6 + x + 2 + 7 + 9}{6}\) = 6

26 + 2x = 36

2x = 36 - 26

2x = 10

x = \(\frac{10}{2}\) = 5

2, 5, 6, 7, 7, 9

Median = \(\frac{6 + 7}{2}\) = 6.5
