(a) Three types of rural settlements are:

(i) Isolated settlement - One or a few houses only are found in a remote area

(ii) Two or more houses without shops, schools, or services also in remote area

(iii)Village- Many houses where several hundreds or thousands of people are found usually with small shops and limited services

(b) Four ways in which rural and urban settlements are interdependent:

(i) Rural settlements are sources of food for urban settlements

(i) Urban settlements are usually the sources of manufactured goods for the rural areas

(iii) Urban settlements are the sources of jobs or educational opportunities for the rural settlements

(iv) Urban settlements may also serve as administrative headquarters of the rural settlements
