Discuss eight maintenance practices including the precautions you would take to keep the tractor operating safely and ensure its durability.

Explanation

Eight maintenance practices and precautions which can be taken to keep a tractor operating safely and ensure durability after use are:-

(i) Inspect the tractor before starting everyday. It helps to spot potential machine failures and safety hazards.

(ii)Ensure that nuts and screws or metal parts are tight. Loose nuts, screws and metal parts may cause vibration and produce irritating noise and in some cases may cause machine failure.

(iii) Keep the machine clean by removing all thrash or mud and excess grease/oil from machine at the start or at the end of operation.

(iv) Do not overload the tractor i.e. operate at appropriate speed for field operations and avoid using it under conditions that are unfavourable.

(v) Employ a skilled or competent and experienced tractor operator.

(vi) Carry out routine services by changing filters and oil when due.

(vii) Check water and oil levels regularly to ensure that they are normal and to prevent any overheating or seizure of engine.

(viii) Check tyre pressures and replace flat or worn-out tyres.
