Write a geographical account of petroleum mining in North Africa under the following headings:

(a) Major areas (b) Methods of mining (c) Transportation (d) Importance to the economy

Explanation

(a) Major areas of petroleum mining in North Africa include Libya, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia

(b) Methods of r petroleum involves drilling

(i) The underground rocks are sampled and tested for traces of oil

(ii) When oil is disco a well is sunk to reach it by the help of a drilling rig or derrick

(iii) The oil is then pumped out, but where the enough pressure underground, the oil flows out on its own

(c) Transportation: Oil is usually transported through pipelines to the refineries tankers at the oil terminals can also be used in transportation of crude oil.

(d) Importance to the economy:

(i) provides foreign exchange earnings to the economy

(ii) It is refined to obtain petrol, gas, kerosene, etc

(iii) B products are used in making insecticides, petroleum jelly, lubricating oil etc

(iv) Petroleum provides raw mater associated industries

(v) It provides gainful employment to some people
