In the diagram, the shaded part is carpet laid in a room with dimensions 3.5m by 2.2m leaving a margin of 0.5m round it. Find area of the margin

Correct Answer: A. 4.7m2
Explanation
Area of floor = 3.5m x 2.2m = 7.7m2
Area of carpet = (3.5 - 0.5 - 0.5)m x (2.2 - 0.5 - 0.5)m
2.5m x 1.2m = 3m2
hence, area of margine
= area of floor - area of carpet
= (7.7 - 3)m2
= 4.7m2
