The sides of a right angle triangle in ascending order of magnitude are 8cm, (x-2)cm and x cm. Find x

  • A. 16
  • B. 17
  • C. 34
  • D. 90

Correct Answer: B. 17

Explanation

\(8^2 + (x - 2)^2 = x^2\\

64 + x^2 - 4x + 4 = x^{2}\\

x^2 - 4x + 68 = x^2\\

-4x = -68\\

-x = \frac{-68}{4} = 17\)
