Various ways in which Nigeria maintains friendly relations with other African States are:
(i)Giving of aids and relief materials:Victims of the countries involved in political unrest e.g war, coups, etc, and of natural disasters e.g famine, drought, have received aids or grants and relief materials accordingly.
(ii)Bilateral relations:It embarked on the establishment of bilateral economic and political relationships e.g. Nigeria and Togo.
(iii)Regional and Sub-regional economic ties:Nigeria is actively involved in this union. For example, African Economic Community (AEC), African Development Bank (ADB), African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA), ECOWAS, etc.
(iv)Maintenance of friendly relations:Nigeria has consistently maintained this. It has also involved itself in the promotion of multi-lateral economic and political relationship, e.g. Niger Basin Commission and Chad Basin Commission.
(v)Resolution of Crises:In most of the crises-ridden areas of Africa e.g Somalia, Liberia, Chad, Sudan, etc, Nigeria has been involved in resolution of such crises and even made moves for the settlement of such crises.
(vi)Technical aid Corp:Nigeria is helping some African States through this programme.Nigerian Lawyers, Engineers, Doctors, Teachers, etc, are assisting most of these countries.
(vii)Peace-Keeping operations:Nigeria has been participating actively in peace-keeping operations, for exam-ple in Chad, Congo, Liberia, Somalia, etc.
(viii)Sports and cultural activities:Nigeria has contributed and participated in both-sporting and cultural activities in Africa. It hosted FESTAC 77 and takes active part in Games as well.
(ix)Liberation Movements:It has supported some liberation movements in Africa, e.g MPLA, SWAPO, etc. This support is financial, moral, etc.
