State the functions of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Organisation.

Explanation

Functions of the Secretary-general of the United Nations Organisation include:

(i)The annual report of the organisation is presented to the General Assembly by him.

(ii) He is the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.N.O.

(iii) He directs all the activities in the secretariat which is U.N.O'S administrative headquarters.

(iv) He has the capacity to represent U.N.O in any other international organisations e.g, the Common wealth, OAU, Non-aligned Movement, etc . He can as well present addresses in most of these organisations on behalf of U. N.O.

(v) He brings to the Security Council, issues that can threaten global peace and security.

(vi) He takes care of the organisation's properties.

(vii) He always acts as the secretary in most of the meeting of the organs of U.N.O.

(viii) The supervision and coordination of the activities of the other organs of U.N.O are part of his functions.

(ix) He has the power to appoint and direct the activities of members of staff of the secretariat.

(x) It is not an obligation for him to take instructions from any member nation of the organisation.
